Abstract
The rapidly quenched Fe73.5Cu1Ta3Si13.5B9 alloy has been annealed in a controlled way in the temperature range 400–700°C for 1 h in order to study the effect of structural parameters such as lattice parameter, grain size and silicon content of the nanocrystalline Fe(Si) grains on the initial permeability. Temperature and frequency dependence of initial permeability of amorphous and devitrified toroid shaped samples have been measured. Enhancement of Curie temperature of the amorphous alloys has been observed due to the irreversible structural relaxation. With the appearance of nanocrystalline phase the Curie temperature of the residual amorphous phase gradually decreases with the increase of annealing temperature. Temperature dependence of permeability of annealed samples in the temperature range of 500–575°C exhibits superparamagnetic and superferromagnetic behavior depending upon the volume fraction of nanograins.
