Abstract

Three-dimensional nano-magnetite/chitosan rod had been prepared via in situ precipitation method in the presence of suitable models. X-ray powder diffraction pattern indicated that the magnetite crystal size was about 11.5 nm. Transmission electron microscopy image showed that the nano-magnetite particles were dispersed homogenously in the chitosan matrix, also the layered structure of the rod could be viewed from the digital camera photos. From magnetic measurement we concluded that the saturated magnetic intensity (Ms) was about 49.5 emu/g, coercive force was zero. The results indicate that the as-prepared magnetite is super-paramagnetic.
