Abstract
Cu2O nano-whiskers were successfully synthesized via a novel wet-chemical route using polyethylene glycol (PEG, Mw = 20000) as surfactant and hydrazine as reducing agent at room temperature. The products were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and ultraviolet–visible (UV–vis) spectroscopy. Based on the SEM images of the as-obtained samples, we found that the role of PEG is significant to induce the growth of Cu2O along the 1D direction. Moreover, the formation mechanism of obtained Cu2O nano-whiskers was discussed.
