The work studies scientific publications in Russia and world leading countries. The number of publications is chosen as an indicator of the science development in a country. Publications in several priority areas for the scientific and technological complex of Russia were analyzed, namely: Living Systems, Energy and Energy saving, Industry of Nanosystems and Materials. The latter one shows a 21 % annual increase in a number of articles published in the world during last 4 years. The same parameter in Russia equals 3 %. High level of concentration of research in a number of scientific centers was demonstrated. Usage statistics of scientific information was analyzed for the resources subscribed within the science information system recently developed in Russia to support national higher education and research. Comparison of the data on a number of downloaded and published articles shows a strong correlation between those two factors.
