Abstract
Natural and synthetic polymers have a number of common traits; however, each class of compounds demonstrates specific properties. The design of hybrid copolymers based on such different macromolecules is a unique strategy for constructing smart materials. The review deals with two aspects: state-of-the-art studies in bioinspired hybrid systems, including those based on oligopeptides and oligothiophenes, and achievements in the computer modeling of this new class of molecular chimeras.
